Our Model
Blu Collar Group is a mentorship & project-based learning program that is community based, engaging, adjustable and organized.
Program Standards
- Conduct frequent, supervised, group learning and skill development projects that address a variety of youth social issues and community needs.
- Recruit mentors (public and business sectors), youth ages 11-18 and young adults ages 19-23 who represent the target of the program's community.
- Assign a Program Director responsible for managing the program.
- Establish an integrated educational and reflection process for participants.
- Provide mentoring, business coaching and leadership opportunities for Youth Volunteers.
- Use the trademark Blu Collar Group name and logo prominently in close coordination with education reform, mentoring and relative marketing.
- Participate in the BCG program evaluation process.
Community Organization
BCG offers a platform that brings people together to collectively address problems, concerns or issues with the goal of enhancing self-determination, achieving greater equality, and affecting a shift in power relationships to benefit members of oppressed communities.

Engaging
Projects draw favorable attention and interest between youth and mentors creating a seamless flow of learning, guidance and coaching. Using Group mentoring this provides a smaller more focused team ratio of 1:4 mentor to youth participants. Tasks focus on local youth issues to solve offering participants a real-world hands on experience. Also, participants have a direct outlet to actively demonstrate new acquiring skills simultaneously developed within the project versus traditional education where kids are systematically tested at the end of teaching or lectures. Projects are strategically planned and arranged to flow through the Project Management Life Cycle (Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitor/Control & Closure). HYPE team energy helps implement project-based learning, ice-breakers and team building activities. BCG Team Leaders oversee and supervise every participant and project to ensure they are welcomed, safe and accountable, and understand shared project roles. |
Adjustable
BCG offers a flexible Project Management framework which can be tailored to offer a variety of curriculums for several age brackets. Youth have the option to choose which project(s) to participate in. BCG offers project courses while in school (after-school and weekends), summer sessions and year-round for today's busy families. |
